I try many software products over the course of a year. Some I install directly on my primary desktop, if I think they are more “mainstream” products and not likely to destroy my PC. Sorry, I cannot speak to MAC, as I do not operate one currently. Alternatively, I will install the product on a test PC that I have, where if it does not work well, I have not disrupted my primary working PC. Fascinating look at how open source development works

I just finished reading the report on the development of the Linux kernel.  The study reported on such items as;  who is developing the source code, who pays those developers, how many lines of code are added, changed and deleted per release.    The detailed report can be found at Linux Development Report .  Give it a read not so much for the sheer number of numbers, but for the way companies can work together.
